What does my athletic scholarship cover?
Depending of the level and association you choose to compete in, an athletic scholarship can cover part of, a combination of, or all of the following: tuition, room, board, books, insurance and fees.
How secure is my athletic scholarship?
It is important to understand exactly how much your athletic scholarship is worth, and what the nature of the agreement is. Athletic scholarships are usually one-year deals that need to be renewed each year; however, some institutions offer four-year athletic scholarships.
What happens if I get injured?
Depending on the level and the institution, it is usually at the coaches’ discretion as to whether your athletic scholarship will be upheld while you are injured. It is highly unlikely that it will fall away, as long as you are meeting all the academic requirements.
Can my athletic scholarship be increased?
It is very common in equivalency sports like soccer for coaches to increase athletic scholarships based on performance. This is important to know, and to understand the coaches’ expectation for increasing scholarship money prior to the season beginning.
Is the coaching staff going to stay?
An important question for athletes to know, due to the fact that a coaching change may complicate your scholarship offer. Each new coach tend to bring in new staff, change the style of the program and bring in different recruits. Make sure that your offer is secure regardless of this possibility, or that the staff that recruited you is going to stay.
